Schlage® Encode Plus (BE499): Home Key, Thread and Known Issues

What it is

The Encode Plus is the only Schlage deadbolt with Apple Home Key. It keeps the Encode's keypad and Wi-Fi and adds a Thread radio and full HomeKit support.

Connectivity

Wi-Fi plus Thread. Supports HomeKit, Apple Home Key over NFC (iPhone XR or newer, Apple Watch Series 4 or newer) and access-code management from within Apple Home. Thread connectivity gives over a year of battery life where Wi-Fi gives under three months.

What the official app can do

• Lock, unlock, manage codes and read history, same as the Encode
• Deliver firmware updates first-party
• Show battery level on the main lock screens

What it can't do

• Drive the official Apple Watch app — that supports the Encode deadbolt and lever only
• Expose actions to Shortcuts
• Replace Apple Home for Siri, automations and Home Key, all of which live there instead
